In our increasingly sexualized world, parents take comfort in statistics showing that fewer teens are having intercourse in high school and teen pregnancy rates are lower. The reality is that kids are having more sexual contact than ever before and at an earlier age, even as young as 10. Youth call this “hooking up” and the point is to have no relationship, no commitment, just sex-oral, anal, intercourse, petting, or kissing. Laura Stepp has written about adolescents and families for over a decade and in her book, Unhooked, we get a glimpse of the young culture today and how young women are pursuing sex, avoiding love, and losing at both. The interview is lively and fascinating and her recommendations in her final chapter to teach values, love, and caring in both girls and boys is superior. A must read and must listen to interview for ALL parents.
